Harrison College, which has provided career-focused education since 1902, has seen a rise in the number of adults returning to college during the economic downturn in an effort to improve their prospects in an increasingly competitive job market. Harrison College is offering the Career Assessment Tool to the public to help those adults better focus their career objectives, and understand how higher education may play a part in helping them reach their career goals.
"Many displaced workers are coming to the realization that they may have to change careers to find employment, but they aren't sure what they want to do or what they might be good at," Jason Konesco, Harrison College President, said. "This career assessment tool is designed to help the user better understand their strengths and ambitions, corresponding careers, and a path for pursuing those careers."
The career assessment tool is a multiple choice questionnaire that takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Upon completion, users receive a summary that identifies careers that best fit their interests and personalities, average salaries for those careers, and programs of study that can lead to employment in those careers. Not all of the programs of study are offered at Harrison College.
"Tools like the Career Assessment are vital to ensuring individuals have the know-how and resources they need to succeed in today's working world," Scott Miller, President & CEO of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, said. "Building a strong, competitive workforce is a key element in attracting and retaining quality jobs throughout Central Indiana and I applaud Harrison College for their work on this important initiative."
