NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Black Friday is just around the corner, and as this year's holiday shopping season shifts into high gear, the National Retail Federation expects a solid 3.6 percent increase in sales for 2016. While some of that increase may come from online sales, drivers can still expect bargain hungry shoppers to fill the roads and pack the parking lots. The Hankook Tire Gauge Index checked out what's on drivers' minds as they hit the roads this holiday season.
The Extra Mile
Hankook Tire found that shoppers are willing to go the extra mile to get their shopping done. According to the Gauge, 83% of Americans say they'll drive up to 50 miles to complete all of their holiday shopping this year. Most of that must be in search of sales, as 97% of those polled said they'd be willing to drive up to 100 miles to find the best holiday deal.
Naughty or Nice
Whether you drive around the corner or across state lines to pick up that perfect gift, it might be a good idea to park far away from other cars. According to the survey, more than three-quarters (77%) of Americans say that they have come back to their car after shopping to find a scratch, dent or ding in their vehicle… however, 81% say they've never hit or dinged a parked car. It must have been the elves that did it.
In-Laws In Cars
Navigating crowded mall parking lots is as nerve wracking as finding the perfect sweater set for your mother-in-law. However, having her drive you to help you pick it out just might be worse. The Gauge found that 30% of those surveyed said that they would be most nervous about their in-laws or parents driving them around.
Overall, most agree it's still best to at least have someone behind the wheel – nearly half (48%) of Americans are most nervous about being chauffeured around by a driverless car. The jury is still out on whether reindeer count.
The Perfect Present
Ultimately, it's not about how the scratch got on your car door or if your in-laws know how to drive… it's about tracking down the perfect present to bring holiday cheer to your loved ones. If you have a gear-head in your life, consider taking advantage of the Hankook Tire Great Winter Rebate, where you can save up to $80 on the purchase of winter tries to keep your car all-weather ready – after all, according to the Gauge, one in three (36%) Americans would like to receive new tires this holiday season.
The Hankook Tire Gauge Index is a quarterly survey of Americans that uncovers their attitudes and opinions about all things related to driving. The fall installment of the survey, conducted October 12-13, 2016, polled 1,015 randomly selected Americans.
