Hanes® Seeks Help of Facebook Friends to Donate Socks This Holiday Season
By year-end, America's No. 1 Sock Brand will have committed to donating 250,000 pairs of socks to those less fortunate
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hanes®, America's No. 1 Sock Brand, today announced the launch of its third annual Virtual Sock Drive to benefit The Salvation Army just in time for the holiday season. For every person who visits Hanes on Facebook® (www.Facebook.com/Hanes) from Nov. 16 until Dec. 12, 2011, and clicks the "Donate Now" button, Hanes will donate a pair of socks toward the overall donation goal of 250,000 pairs (half a million individual socks). This year's donation will elevate the combined total donated since the inaugural effort in 2009 to 1.7 million individual socks.
The Virtual Sock Drive allows the online community to make a difference for those in need this holiday season simply by visiting the Hanes Facebook page. Once new fans "like" the Hanes page they will be able to visit the "Sock" tab to trigger a donation, and current fans can donate simply by visiting the "Sock" tab by clicking "Donate Now." Once fans complete their donations they can share the news with friends to encourage even more donations.
"We at Hanes have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to the Virtual Sock Drive from our Facebook community and we are excited to bring it back for a third year," said Sidney Falken, Chief Branding Officer, Hanes. "The Sock Drive is a simple way for consumers to help us make an impactful product donation this holiday season. In years past, we've met our donation goal very quickly so we look forward to the consumer response this year."
Hanes is proud to continue its partnership with The Salvation Army and to make a meaningful donation to the organization that provides assistance for nearly 30 million Americans.
"We're thrilled to receive this generous donation from Hanes again this year," said Major George Hood, national community relations and development secretary for The Salvation Army. "Last year's donation helped to keep many people warm and comfortable, especially during the winter season. Socks continue to be one of the most requested items at our shelters, so the Hanes donation could not come at a better time."
To participate in the Virtual Sock Drive and for more information visit www.Facebook.com/Hanes or www.Hanes.com. The application will be live from Nov. 16 until Dec. 12, 2011. For more information about The Salvation Army including ways to get involved, visit http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/.
