Haemonetics' Acquisition Wins BC LifeSciences Medical Device Company of the Year Award
BRAINTREE, Mass., April 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Haemonetics Corporation (NYSE: HAE) announced today that Neoteric Technology Ltd, a corporate acquisition in 2009, currently doing business as Haemonetics Canada, LTD, was named the LifeSciences British Columbia Medical Device Company of the Year.
Haemonetics was recognized for providing patient safety and tracking solutions to acute care hospitals over the last 13 years. The solutions ensure that critical treatments are given to the right patient at the right time in the right dose, and are now installed in more than 180 hospitals in 5 countries.
In particular, the award recognized the revolutionary BloodTrack® blood transfusion and inventory management system. The BloodTrack suite is comprised of eight solutions, including the HemoSafe automated blood dispensing system and BloodTrack Tx, a bedside point-of-care system that utilizes the latest mobile bar code technology to ensure that the right blood is transfused to the right patient. Each BloodTrack solution is integrated into BloodTrack Manager, a central dashboard that provides hospitals with a comprehensive, real-time view of their entire transfusion service.
Using BloodTrack, hospitals are able to reduce the time to make blood available to patients 'just in time' instead of 'just in case' while improving the efficiency of the hospital transfusion process. As published in the journal Transfusion (2008, vol. 48), the time to access blood in the operating room was reduced from 24 minutes to 59 seconds, and the time required for blood bank and clinical staff to manage blood preparation and delivery was reduced from 117 minutes to 34 minutes a day. At the same time, the number of blood units issued from the hospital blood bank was reduced by 52%.
The award was presented at a gala ceremony in front of an audience of approximately 600 medical device, bioproducts, and greater life sciences community leaders at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010.
"The theme of our 2010 LifeSciences BC Awards is 'Bridges to the Future', and each of these recipients has brought us new knowledge, leadership, innovation and technologies to create a better future for humankind," commented Karimah Es Sabar, President of LifeSciences British Columbia. "We thank and applaud each of them for their tremendous efforts, insight, and commitment to a better future through great science and the commercialization and adoption of that science achieved right here in British Columbia."
Regarding the award, Geof Auchinleck, Site Director of Haemonetics Canada, LTD said, "We are delighted to receive this award following the years of hard work and dedication by our team to improving the lives of patients and hospital caregivers, particularly in transfusion management."
