Grow Your Bottom Line and Overcome Employee Blues -- Even In a Labor Day Recession
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Labor Day is almost here and our economy is still in a recession. Your bottom line shows it -- so do your employees.
Worker surveys report about the same number of employees are as dissatisfied as when the economy was robust -- nearly half.
"Employees should celebrate their work on Labor Day, but the sad fact is, for many, it's just a day off from a job they don't like," says Dr. Joey Faucette, author of Work Positive in a Negative World: Redefine Your Reality and Achieve Your Business Dreams (Entrepreneur Press).
As their employer, you know that job satisfaction is tied closely to productivity and profitability. So, what can you do?
Faucette offers these strategies:
Harness the Power of Positivity
Focus on one positive behavior of your employees and think about it on the way to work for 21 days. It could be that they show up on time. It might be that they do an exceptional job of caring for your customers. Keep thinking until you focus your mind on that positive aspect and stay focused on it during your commute for three weeks.
Additionally, find one positive employee to associate with on a daily basis.
"Negative workers, I call them 'Eeyore Vampires,' will suck away positive thoughts you have about your employees in a matter of seconds," warns Faucette.
He suggests, you redirect or reframe break room conversations or remove yourself so you stay focused on positive team members.
Commit to Improvement
Ever said, "I own this company, I should ..."? Avoid just talking about positively improving your work environment -- go do it. If it works well, do it again. If not, develop it better. Solicit input from positive workers as to what improvements they would make.
Give Away Thank Yous
When was the last time you said, "Thank you" to your employees? We all become more positive and productive when we hear "Thank you." Discover some specific and positive behavior. Then express your appreciation in detail.
