Partnership with Ontario Ministry of Education makes latest French-language resources available to 14,000 teachers and 1 million students
TORONTO, Aug. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Groupe Média TFO, an Ontario-based public media organization, is proud to announce a groundbreaking agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Education that will introduce TFO Éducation French-language resources to English school boards, teachers, and students across the province. The award-winning collection of over 5,000 multimedia educational tools will be made available to 14,000 teachers in 60 English school boards and will benefit one million students across the province.
"With this exciting agreement, TFO Éducation strengthens its partnership with Ontario's teachers and students," said Julie Caron, Director of TFO Éducation, Groupe Média TFO. "We are proud to share these wonderful educational resources in French throughout Ontario, and we appreciate the trust granted to us by the educational community."
TFO's educational resources are designed to promote collaborative learning within the classroom and among educators. The collection includes educational videos, online games, apps, and electronic books. With resources available for computers, tablets, smartphones, and interactive whiteboards, French teachers will have a wealth of assets at their fingertips to create dynamic lessons for the new generation of connected students. For some of these resources, TFO Éducation offers guides in English to help out English-speaking parents whose children are learning French.
"These new resources will go a long way to ensure our English-speaking students will have every advantage they need to succeed in French, while promoting a strong and vibrant French-language culture here in Ontario," added Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs. "To learn a language, one must hear it and speak it daily," said Denis Cousineau, Academic Advisor, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. "With the availability of sites like TFO Éducation, our learners will be able to improve their skills and their confidence to use French daily. TFO resources are easy to use and teachers will benefit from very powerful and realistic planning material."
Earlier this year, the consulting firm Nordicity revealed that 61 per cent of digital educational resources available in Canada are in English only. The introduction of TFO Éducation in English school boards addresses the need for access to more quality French education resources. The study also said that educators were aware that more resources were available, but they did not have the time to find them. TFO Éducation's platform puts the tools they need for enhancing French language learning at their fingertips.
