Greed is Good. . . Fun! Social Media Driven Scavenger Hunt Provokes Citywide Scramble for Bling in Boca Capped by Mom Fishing $5,000 Diamond From a Bio Bubble
BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --A scavenger hunt sent waves of hunters searching for a $5,000 diamond in a citywide event that deployed social media platforms Twitter and Foursquare.
The event sponsored by Raymond Lee Jewelers drew television coverage and was organized by the International PR firm, TransMedia Group, in cooperation with The City of Boca Raton.
Throngs of people scurried to scattered locations to collect clues, including at The Boca Raton Police Department, The Boca Raton Historical Society, Boca Raton Children's Museum, Rock Hard Taco and the Dubliner at Mizner Park.
The lucky hunter was Sara Srebnik who found the diamond hidden in a Bio Bubble, a new type of animal habitat sitting on the bar at The Dubliner with a diamond waiting at the bottom for a searcher to snatch it up.
"Oh, how I wanted that diamond," said Sara Srebnik, of Coral Springs, who put clues together in less than 40 minutes and used Twitter and Foursquare to track down the prize.
According to Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander, "Maybe greed is not good, but this diamond prospecting event was good clean fun and the way it was spread-out over the city provided some healthy exercise physically and mentally trying to figure out clues."
Prizes for the event also were provided by Dr. Fischer Ultrasol® Sun Screen and Bio Bubble Pets.
TransMedia said it is planning more scavenger hunts to generate traffic at local stores.
"Fun with a little adventure thrown in is probably the greatest economic stimulus," said TransMedia President Glen Calder.
