Gold's Gym IDs November as Time of Year When People Exercise the Least, Aims to End the Trend with "Trim the Fat Friday"
Iconic Brand Teams Up with Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine to Help Consumers Avoid the "Fitness PitFALL" with Healthy Recipes and FREE Gym Access Nationwide on "Trim the Fat Friday"
DALLAS, Nov. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Feast your eyes on this: the average Thanksgiving meal contains more than 3,000 calories, but people aren't necessarily pumping more iron to burn off those side dishes. According to new findings from Gold's Gym, during November, members are going to the gym less than any other month of the year.
That's why Gold's Gym, the leading authority on health and fitness, teamed up with Celebrity Chef and Gold's Gym Fitness Institute Member Robert Irvine to "trim the fat" this holiday season, without cutting down on taste. The company's annual "Trim the Fat Friday" program offers consumers the chance to work out for free at participating Gold's Gym locations across the country on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). Irvine supported the initiative by creating six dishes with healthy twists on traditional holiday classics to help consumers avoid the caloric catastrophe.
"I look forward to this time of the year because I get to help consumers look and feel their best during the time of year most notoriously associated with holiday eating and ultimately, weight gain," said Irvine. "With these recipes, it's possible to enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner without the side of guilt, and then trim any excess calories with a free workout at Gold's Gym the very next day."
Visit the Gold's Gym Strength Exchange to download Irvine's recipes, which include Roast Chicken, Vegetables and Parsnip Puree, Herb-Crusted Prime Rib, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Root Vegetables, Kale and Quinoa Salad with Cranberries and Fennel, and Apple and Berry Granola Crisp.
"It's no secret that everyone indulges a little this time of year, but when you add that with record-low gym attendance, it's clear that something needs to be done," said Jeff Na, Gold's Gym Vice President of Fitness. "In addition to Robert Irvine's healthy recipes, 'Trim the Fat Friday' gives consumers access to any Gold's Gym location on Black Friday to immediately combat that calorie overload."
Consumers can show up at any participating Gold's Gym location on Friday, November 27 to take advantage of a complimentary "Trim the Fat Friday" workout. (Limit one workout per customer, must be a local resident with identification.)
