Glory Foods Kicks Off Recipe Contest to Encourage Kids to Eat More Greens!
COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Glory Foods is looking to give someone $500 for the best kid-friendly recipe using its delicious canned Southern Seasoned Greens. Greens, like collard, kale and mustard, are packed with vitamins and nutrients. Studies show greens can help fight viruses, enhance lung health, increase brain function, offer heart protection and are a great source of vitamin E, antioxidants and calcium too! Wouldn't it be great if more kids loved greens? Glory is hoping to find the perfect recipe that kids won't be able to resist in the "Can You Make the Can Recipe Contest."
"We pride ourselves on offering heart-healthy products to our consumers, but one concern we hear is that it's hard to get children to eat greens. So this is our customers' chance to share some of their tasty recipes that kids will devour," says Annie Ham, Marketing Director of McCall Farms, the parent company of Glory Foods. Ham continues, "We like to feature great recipes on our cans, and we hope this will be just the beginning of some delicious recipes that kids will love."
The contest is facilitated through Glory Foods' popular Facebook page, which has nearly 170,000 fans. Recipes can be submitted July 7th through August 30th. Fans will vote for their favorite until September 13th at midnight. At the end of the voting period, the top two fan favorites, along with two wild card recipes chosen by the McCall Farms Research and Development team based on creativity, simplicity and overall appeal to children, will be the finalists.
Recipes must be original and include any canned Glory Greens item (i.e. collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens, mixed greens or kale) as a primary ingredient. Ingredients are limited to eight or fewer, and the total cook time cannot exceed 30 minutes. An original photo of the prepared dish must also be submitted.
To earn votes, contestants agree to share the contest with only their personal Facebook accounts. Solicitation for votes on any other pages, social media vote exchange groups or acquiring votes through advertisement by a contestant will result in immediate disqualification from the contest.
The recipes will be prepared by the executive chef of Victor's restaurant for final judging that will take place at the Florence After Five event in downtown Florence on September 26th. Local children will vie for a chance to participate as a judge. Glory Foods representatives will select four qualifying applicants of varying ages to taste each of the recipes and rank them based on which they would be most likely to eat.
The winners will receive the following prizes:
1st Prize
- $500 Visa gift card, Glory gift basket, and their recipe will be featured on the label for the applicable Glory Foods product in 2015
2nd Prize
- $300 Visa gift card & Glory gift basket
3rd Prize
- $200 Visa gift card & Glory gift basket
4th Prize

Glory Foods will closely monitor all contestants' entry activity and may at any time during the contest ask a contestant to validate any suspicious activity. Failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification. For more information go to www.gloryfoodsrecipecontest.com.
