NEW YORK, Oct. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Penfolds Collection has been launched around the world, from our Magill Estate Winery in Adelaide, to the Shanghai Pavilion, vibrant Hong Kong and historic London. Last night, Penfolds officially launched the 2018 Collection in the cultural epicenter of New York, the first ever global release in the United States of America. This once-in-a-lifetime event marked the next step for Penfolds in establishing a strong footprint in the U.S. market and engaging a new base of loyal customers. The gala evening brought to life Penfolds' illustrious history and distinguished heritage, first established in 1844, for globally recognised tastemakers and industry insiders alike at Cedar Lake in West Chelsea, Manhattan.
"With each Global Launch event, we share Penfolds innately bold and unconventional story. We are fortunate to have a rich 174 year heritage and we celebrate the resourcefulness and innovation that evolved Penfolds from a 19th century tonic to become one of Australia's most celebrated wineries," says Peter Gago, Chief Winemaker. "This year's Collection proves to be another representation of our uniquely complex blends and enduring 'House Style', echoing a long lineage of custodians who have kept our stories alive. We're excited to globally launch out of NYC and share the 2018 Collection and launch here in the US market."
Unveiled officially for the first time, the Collection's 2018 debut gave guests the opportunity to enjoy the new-release wines in immersive sensorial zones which spoke to the pioneering spirit of Penfolds; The Philosophy Garden - born of a philosophy, not a methodology or even a geography, The Time Cellar - big bold wines made to be complex, remarkable and to live long, Blending un-corked – the art of blending both multi-varietal and multi-regional to produce the best wine from the best grapes.
The evening was inspired by Penfolds' old advertisement adage '1844 to Evermore!'; from the first sip of the new 2018 Bin 51 Riesling, through a series of moments and milestones grounded in Penfolds founding, to a celebration of our famed fine wines and a toast to the Grange 2014. The evening celebrated the rich diversity of our stories, myths, and legends:
- The journey of Penfolds founding. From soil that had never grown grapes and winemakers that had never made wine, came the very first bottles of Penfolds in 1844. Mary and Christopher Penfold's beginnings were in an unforgiving land. But they were unbound by tradition. Their open mindedness brought prosperous opportunities.
- The extraordinary expansion of Penfolds in the early 1900s, which ultimately led to its establishment as a household name in Australia and highly respected institution across the world. This provided incredible opportunities and accolades including the highest honour at the London Exhibition, where the jury of experts pronounced them to be some of the finest wines ever seen from Australia.
- Max Schubert, Penfolds first Chief Winemaker's curious mind and stubborn passion led to the development of our most famed wine, Grange. His experimentation and innovation was born from the idea of creating a long-lived red wine.
- The perseverance and determination dedicated to the first release of Penfolds flagship white wine, Yattarna Chardonnay, which took 144 trials to create. Yattarna is the result one of the most comprehensive, focused and highly publicised wine development projects ever conducted in Australia.
- And the present day and future success of Penfolds - which has been and will continue to be driven by generations of visionaries and innovators – and the guests have now become part of the Penfolds story.
The Penfolds Collection, available globally starting today Thursday 18th October at select fine wine stores and Penfolds Cellar Doors – Magill Estate Winery and Barossa Valley Cellar Door. For more information visit www.penfolds.com.
