"Now that we are using remote interpreters, we are increasing our ability to meet the needs of our patients and families and also satisfying requirements of the Joint Commission," said Cheryl Vanase, the director of patient experience for Glens Falls Hospital.
Today, Glens Falls Hospital has interpreters available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in more than 200 spoken languages in addition to American Sign Language (ASL). The VRI system used throughout Glens Falls Hospital connects patients with interpreters within seconds, available on PC or iPad devices and on portable carts that can be wheeled into a patient's room. VRI enables the hospital staff to use interpreters via a live, web-based video conference with medically trained and certified interpreters.
"The hospital has seen an increased usage of interpreters with the new VRI program, which means additional language access to our LEP population and better care," said Vanase. "The Communication process has become more efficient and ensured delivery of interpreter services to patients in a timely manner."
