WASHINGTON, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgetown University has appointed Kelly Otter, Ph.D., as the new Dean of the School of Continuing Studies (SCS). Dr. Otter brings a wealth of experience in academic program development and oversight, as well as in technology-enhanced and non-traditional learning environments.
From Huskies to Hoyas
Dr. Otter comes to Georgetown from Northeastern University, where she served as the Associate Dean for Graduate Academic and Faculty Affairs for the College of Professional Studies. In that role, she was responsible for developing professional studies programs at the graduate level for regional, national, and international delivery. During her tenure at Northeastern, Dr. Otter not only led the design and implementation of new graduate degrees in Food & Food Industry Regulations and Homeland Security, but also pioneered important collaborations with companies and educational institutions across the globe.
Expertise in Education
Prior to Northeastern, Dr. Otter served as the Associate Dean of the College of General Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, where she administered traditional and professionally oriented undergraduate programs and graduate certificate programs. During her time at Pitt, she also established the online learning platform, PittOnline, as well as the University's Office of Veterans' Services.
Dr. Otter holds a B.A. in communications from the University of Michigan; an M.A. in radio, TV, and film from Wayne State University; and a Ph.D. in arts and humanities education from the Steinhardt School of Education at New York University.
Paving the Path Forward
Dr. Otter will lead the School of Continuing Studies into its next era, building on the accomplishments of the School to design and launch innovative educational graduate and certificate programs in Washington DC that advance the professional careers of its students. This will include experimenting with new models of delivery, using advanced teaching and learning technologies, and exploring innovative pedagogy to fulfill Georgetown's mission in new ways.
