Geocent President Dr. Bobby Savoie Receives NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal
NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) has awarded Geocent, LLC President Dr. Robert (Bobby) Savoie its highest civilian honor, the Distinguished Public Service Medal, for outstanding leadership and support.
According to NASA, "(Dr. Savoie's) professionalism, competency, the relationships he has forged over the years, and the mutual respect he brings to the endeavor, are instrumental in executing this vision. His voluntary commitment of time and his seasoned visionary leadership have contributed immeasurably to the furtherance of NASA's mission and goals."
NASA's noted several of Dr. Savoie's services in its nomination, including:
- Dr. Savoie was directly responsible for securing an investment of over $60 million in state-of-the-art manufacturing tooling for the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF).
- He is directly responsible for bringing together NASA and the State of Louisiana and forging a functional and highly effective partnership.
- Dr. Savoie was an indispensible leader bringing a new commercial tenant to MAF, creating over 600 jobs. As a result of his influence and involvement, this significant tenant relationship was achieved 18 months ahead of expectations.
U.S. Senator David Vitter said of Savoie's award, "This honor is well deserved. In Louisiana, Bobby Savoie is known for his leadership in business and in the community. This recognition by NASA demonstrates that Bobby's leadership extends far beyond Louisiana – he's a national leader."
NASA's Distinguished Public Service Medal is the highest honor that NASA confers on a non-Government individual. The award is granted only to individuals whose distinguished accomplishments contributed substantially to the mission, and, according to NASA, are "so extraordinary that other forms of recognition by NASA would be inadequate." Previous winners of the Distinguished Public Service Medal include Robert Heinlein, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Carl Sagan.
Founded in 1992, Geocent's clients include NASA and the Department of Defense, in areas including engineering, information technology software design, database development, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), business intelligence and scientific software solutions, and development and support.
In 2010, Inc. Magazine named Geocent, LLC as one of the nation's fastest-growing private companies, and the Louisiana Technology Council named Geocent "Growth Company of the Year." New Orleans City Business honored Geocent in 2009 as "Innovator of the Year," and as "One of the Best Places to Work in New Orleans" every year for the past five years.
