Gateway Rehab CEO Receives University Of Pittsburgh 225Th Anniversary Medallion Award Presented by School of Social Work
PITTSBURGH, April 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kenneth S. Ramsey, Ph.D., President and CEO of Gateway Rehab, is a recipient of the University of Pittsburgh's 225th Anniversary Medallion.
The award was presented today by Larry E. Davis, Dean, School of Social Work, and Albert J. Novak, Jr., Vice Chancellor, Institutional Advancement, to recognize Dr. Ramsey as a Pitt alumnus "who built better lives through (his) life's work, community service, professional achievement and service to Pitt."
As the CEO of Gateway Rehab for more than 35 years, Dr. Ramsey has overseen an impressive transition of a company from a modest operation into an internationally recognized drug and alcohol treatment center. More importantly, Dr. Ramsey has been responsible for bringing the problem of substance abuse to the forefront of public awareness.
Dr. Ramsey, who will retire from Gateway Rehab July 1, earned a bachelor's degree from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, W.Va., a master's degree from Fordham University in New York City, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He also is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh's first class.
Among his many honors, Dr. Ramsey was appointed by Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell to the Pennsylvania Advisory Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse and was recognized by Wheeling Jesuit University as a distinguished alumnus. In 2005 he was named "Administrator of the Year" by the American College of Addiction Treatment Administrators and earned the "Health Care Hero Executive Award" presented by the Pittsburgh Business Times.
The University of Pittsburgh's 225th Anniversary Medallions are given to a very special group of recipients – alumni whose achievements have brought honor to the University and whose efforts have contributed to Pitt's progress.
