Fuyao Chairman Announces Addition Of 750 Jobs In Moraine
$130 Million Investment Brings Total Job Commitment at Former GM Plant to 1,550
COLUMBUS, Jan. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fuyao Glass America Inc. Chairman Cao Dewang today announced the selection of Moraine for its North American after-market automotive glass manufacturing, which will produce 4 million units of glass per year for the North American market. The $130 million investment is expected to result in 750 new jobs at the plant, bringing the total number of jobs committed to 1,550 and total capital investment to $360 million in Moraine.
Governor John R. Kasich; JobsOhio President and Chief Investment Officer John Minor; and Ambassador Zhang Quiye, Consul General for the People's Republic of China in New York, joined Chairman Cao for the announcement in the historic Governor's Cabinet Room.
"I want to thank Chairman Cao for his investment in Ohio and his continued commitment to our great state," said Governor Kasich. "He saw what we know and what JobsOhio has been telling the world – Ohio is the place to be. We have the workforce, infrastructure and business climate for success."
Fuyao announced on Jan. 10, 2014, it would locate its first North American automotive glass manufacturing facility in Moraine, bringing 800 jobs to the former GM plant. Chairman Cao said he is committed to ensuring Fuyao will have a strong impact on the automotive industry as well as the Dayton region.
"I am committed to ensuring the excellence of Fuyao's U.S. auto glass manufacturing," said Chairman Cao. "I strongly believe that Ohio is the best location to base these operations, which is why I have chosen to once again invest in the Moraine facility and the Greater Dayton community."
Governor Kasich presented a resolution commending Chairman Cao for his commitment to the state of Ohio, which followed the signing of an agreement by Cao and Minor for a $1 million JobsOhio Workforce Training Grant and a $3 million JobsOhio Economic Development Grant.
"Our strong relationship with Fuyao began in 2013 when we first met Chairman Cao at the grand opening of its Kaluga, Russia, facility and has grown into today's announcement of an additional 750 jobs coming to Ohio," said Minor. "We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Chairman Cao, who has had great success in growing his company and lifting communities worldwide where Fuyao chooses to do business."
Fuyao selected Ohio over competitive proposals from states across the Midwest and Southern United States as well as Asia. The manufacturing will occur in the same facility as the company's previously announced OEM automotive glass manufacturing. Currently all of Fuyao's after-market glass production is in China.
The company is the largest automotive glass supplier in China with 65 percent of the market and 18 percent of the global automotive glass market. The company has a presence in the U.S., Germany, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Brazil and many other countries in the world.
Headquartered in Fuzhou, China, Fuyao employs more than 18,000 workers globally and plans to use its new Moraine facility to supply its growing U.S. customer base, including GM, Chrysler, Safelite, Hyundai, Honda and Kia.
