FRIMO and CMTT announce new mixing head joint venture
Partnership to focus on accelerating development, extending performance range and optimizing service
WIXOM, Mich., Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than half a century, FRIMO has not only been a leading developer and provider of system solutions for the manufacture of polyurethane parts for vehicle interiors, it has also come to be recognized as a top five global supplier for metering unit and mix head technologies in the polyurethane industry. Now, to further boost the company's development, production and service of mixing heads, FRIMO has announced a joint venture with Covelo Machine & Tool Trade Co., Inc (CMTT).
"Thanks to this joint venture, FRIMO and CMTT will be able to pool their accumulated expertise and swiftly make leaps forward to accelerate product development," said FRIMO CEO Hans-Gunter Bayer. "With its longstanding expertise and reputation in building and repairing mixing heads, plus having established its industry presence over the past four decades, CMTT is an ideal partner for us. We want to maximize these synergies and are convinced we will be offering the resulting benefits to our customers in the very near future."
"Leveraging the global sales organization of FRIMO will considerably improve our market access," says CMTT CEO Roland Hohne. "Our customers gain the most from this initiative, by experiencing the combined expertise and strengths of both partners, namely from the high quality of the mixing heads and an excellent and expedited repair service to boot."
In recent years, FRIMO has accumulated a wider scope of expertise in designing and building complex polyurethane processing systems. In addition to intelligent and innovative production system concepts, the company has also been producing high-pressure metering machines and mixing heads, leading to further market success, primarily in the fields of soft and semi rigid foam applications in the polyurethane equipment industry.
Mixing heads are among the most sensitive components in polyurethane processing and reliability on them during production is crucial. FRIMO has successfully established production of mixing heads for a variety of output ranges. The mixing heads are equipped with innovative orifice and needle systems, recirculation grooves, optimal injection angles and the latest material matching with surface treatments to ensure low-friction operation.
FRIMO's three-component mixing heads, also known as duplex heads, have proved their worth in fully automated high-volume production facilities with raw material / color change from one shot to the next. And in processes where the task is to obtain variable hardness and density in diverse foam component sectors, such as when manufacturing seat cushions, FRIMO offers multi-stream mixing heads that can process up to six components.
Key priorities for end users of mixing heads include supplier proximity and speed of service. Within FRIMO's global manufacturing operations, metering units are produced in facilities in North America, Europe and Asia and mixing heads are now produced in North America as well. Accumulated expertise, building components on all three major continents, additional production scope availability, swift service and expanding the product portfolio to cover the entire range of outputs and applications are all part of on the company's agenda.
CMTT constructs and produces high-pressure mixing heads and in recent decades, Hohne has been at the center of virtually all new developments and refinements made to mixing head technologies in the global market, including recirculation, transfer and nozzle technologies. CMTT is also a market leader when it comes to the materials selection process, material matching, production methods and surface treatments.
CMTT has proven itself for decades as one of the key global go-to companies when it comes to servicing and repairing all standard mixing head brands. Thanks to the joint venture with FRIMO, CMTT's service and repair scope will expand from Europe to also encompass North America and Asia, where FRIMO currently manufactures its technologies.
For more on what makes CMTT the perfect partner, the words of Brent Gawne, who heads the North American PU business at FRIMO: "CMTT fits perfectly into FRIMO's North American PU strategy and represents a major step forward in our quest to establish a local network of production and service facilities. Shorter throughput times and rapid-response service are the key goals. This is important for better proximity to customers and a reliable service partnership."
