POULTNEY, Vt., Sept. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's urgent environmental, social and economic challenges require people who have the knowledge and the skills to innovate and implement new solutions. That's where Green Mountain College (GMC) shines – educating and preparing the next generation of environmental, social and economic sustainability problem solvers to make a positive difference at local and global levels. Now in its second year, the essay-based First in Sustainability Scholarship Award, which covers all tuition, room, board and fees for 4 years (a value of $200,000), is open to any student applying to GMC prior to February 15, 2018; to be considered, go to https://greenmtn.formstack.com/forms/first_in_sustainability_award.
"The winner of our inaugural First in Sustainability Scholarship Award, now a first year student at GMC, is exactly the kind of student we seek: informed, enthused, and purposeful about creating a more sustainable world," said Robert (Bob) Allen, President, Green Mountain College. "The education earned through her essay - on how the pollution of St. Albans Bay has impacted the people, animals and marine life of the community in which she was raised - will give her the tools she needs to develop solutions, for her home town and beyond. We look forward to providing this opportunity to the next winner!"
Any high school senior applying for admission to Green Mountain College's class of 2022 is eligible for this scholarship award. Applicants are required to submit an additional essay, describing what change they would like to make for a better and more sustainable world. The piece (up to 800 words) should address these two topics:
- This is what I would change.
- This is how an education at Green Mountain College will prepare me to make the change.
All First in Sustainability Scholarship Award applications must be submitted online and received by 11:59 pm Pacific Time on February 15, 2018. One winner will be announced on April 15, 2018.
