Former DEA Agent Turned Whistleblower Joins Webinar
Task Force Focused on Fighting Opioid Manufacturers
GARDEN CITY, N.Y., Jan. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- While Americans are coping with the same amount of pain as ever, opioid prescriptions have quadrupled since 1999. The availability of opioids, despite the high risks of addiction and overdose, has made them popular as medical treatments and recreational drugs. The opioid epidemic claims as many lives as 9/11 every three weeks. The CDC estimates that the abuse of powerful prescription painkillers costs the economy more than $78.5 billion annually.
A special task force, focused on seeking justice for Local and State municipalities for costs associated with the epidemic, will be holding a web seminar Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2pm. Former head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's Office of Diversion Control, Joe Rannazzisi, has joined the speakers panel to share his experience divulging the way distributors fed opioids into the population, fully aware, he says, of the deaths these drugs were causing.
Our Speakers will discuss:
- Overview of the crisis
- Current state of litigation: causes of action & defenses
- State and federal alternatives
- Special damages
- Overview of the science and medicine
- Class actions
- Answers to your questions via live chat
Registration is complimentary. This program is designed for plaintiff attorneys.
Speakers include:
Joe Rannazzisi formerly with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. As head of the Office of Diversion Control for the Drug Enforcement Administration, he was responsible for cracking down on doctors, pharmacies, drug manufacturers and distributors who did not follow the nation's prescription drug laws.
Melissa Sims, Esq., an attorney with Sanders, Phillips, Grossman, LLC. Ms. Sims has a history of fighting for municipality rights all over the nation is also a task force member. She is at the forefront of litigation to recover monies wrongfully spent by local State municipalities because of big drug companies valuing profits over addiction. Ms. Sims also represented large unions and corporations for recoupment of medical costs and expenses associated with pharmaceutical and medical device negligence.
Additionally, the task force will include Tobi Millrood of Pogust, Braslow & Millrood, LLC; John M. Restaino D.P.M., J.D., M.P.H. of Restaino Law LLC; Peggy J. Wedgworth of Milberg LLP; A.J. De Bartolomeo of Gibbs Law Group, LLP; Jayne Conroy of Simmons, Hanly, Conroy, LLC; Shayna E. Sacks of Napoli Shkolnik, PLLC and James D. Young of Morgan & Morgan. The speakers are all dedicated to fighting this injustice and will bring their extensive experience and vast knowledge and experience to the cause. Collectively, the task force will fight for justice and raise awareness about this national emergency.
