Launched two weeks ago, Force10's Open Cloud Networking framework is a new vision for cloud and conventional data centers that is built on open architectures, open automation, and open ecosystems. The Force10 booth will feature four pods and a presentation theater where visitors will get an overview of the Open Cloud Networking framework and see Force10's solutions for distributed core networking, next-generation top-of-rack (ToR), and Open Automation™ along with its partner ecosystems.
Distributed Core Delivers Price, Performance, Power and Packaging
The new Z9000™ distributed core switch is available in one of the smallest, greenest, densest footprints with disruptive price/performance. It delivers unprecedented scalability and performance in an ultra-small form factor that is one-tenth the size and as little as one-fifth the price of competing products. Featuring 32 40 GbE ports or 128 10 GbE ports in a 2RU form factor that draws just 800 watts -- one twentieth the power of competing products -- the Z9000 makes it possible to build extremely large distributed core networks that support up to 160 Terabits.
S7000 ToR Switch Integrates Compute, Storage, and Networking
The S-Series™ S7000™ Open Cloud Switch is a new type of ToR node that combines storage and application processing capabilities in a single 2RU unit. Optimized for vertical enterprise and cloud data center market segments, the S7000 enables 'cloud-in-a-rack' capabilities and brings a new level of convergence and functionality to the top of rack. It incorporates 64 10GbE ports and four appliance bays that can contain blade servers for customized applications. With its ability to combine compute, storage, and networking resources in a single ToR node, the S7000 sets a new standard for flexibility in the data center.
Open Automation 2.0 Eliminates Complexity
Open Automation 2.0 incorporates several key features: Open Fabric Manager, the OpenConnect advanced and extensible GUI, Port profile support, EVB/VEPA support, and HyperLink™ support. In addition, Force10 will showcase the DevExchange™, an open forum for exchanging SmartScripts™ and information about other automation features of Force10 products. Designed as an application store and a series of forums for Force10 users and support personnel, DevExchange will spur the development and use of new SmartScripts. Force10 will be registering DevExchange members at its booth.
Partner Ecosystems Enable Choice
Force10 will exhibit partner solutions from Acer, Huawei Symantec, and Joyent. With Joyent, for example, Force10 will demonstrate open cloud solutions by running Joyent's cloud automation software on an appliance module in the new S7000 along with an Acer server and an S7000 ToR switch. To demonstrate open storage solutions, Force10 will demonstrate a Huawei Symantec S6800T storage array, with live video streaming from the storage array to server/client using the Force10 S60 switch. Demonstrating open server solutions for small and medium-sized businesses, Force10 will show Acer servers with its S60 ToR switch.
Force10 In Partners' Booths
Force10 also will be participating in booths hosted by its ecosystem partners. In the Ixia booth, Force10 will provide its S-Series ultra-low latency S4810™ ToR switch for a demonstration of a cloud data center simulation using Ixia's Xcellon-Flex™ and ImpairNet™ modules on a single chassis. Force10 is part of an Emulex demo showcasing 40GbE connectivity on the XE201. Force10 is a partner in the demonstration with its S4810 access switch. Force10 will also be showcased in the Broadcom booth as a major user of Broadcom's switch silicon.
