"It is certainly an honor to be recognized as a Best Place to Work for a third time in as many years," said Hank Luhring, founder and CEO of IssueTrak. "We believe we embody the very idea of Best Places to Work through an engaging culture that starts at the top and moves throughout the entire organization. Employees do not just have 'jobs' at IssueTrak but are part of a family. We are proud of our efforts to continue our expanded commitment to giving back to the community and creating a place where people enjoy coming to work."
As a company based on outstanding customer service, IssueTrak employees thrive on providing top-notch service and the knowledge that their actions make a positive impact on others – customers, co-workers, and the community. Every IssueTrak employee is a contributor of ideas, opinions, and solutions that are welcome. Luhring notes, "We are devoted to the idea that the work environment should be productive and fun, and are committed to empowering employees to be successful both in and out of the workplace."
IssueTrak was named winner of Best Places to Work in the Small Business Category in 2010 and honoree in 2011. IssueTrak continues to reward its employees financially with annual salary increases and a year-end bonus, and for the first time in company history, IssueTrak offered stock options to every full-time employee. According to Luhring, "This is a clear representation and demonstration of the ownership every employee has in IssueTrak. I am excited to continue this exercise in years to come and pleased to reward our employees who are engaged, enmeshed and play key roles in nearly every aspect of the business."
The company continues to sustain an extremely low turnover rate and an active volunteer network among the employee base.
IssueTrak maintains a robust Volunteer Program that provides full-time employees with two paid days per year to volunteer at or for a non-profit of their choice. The company is an active member of Volunteer Hampton Road, where Deb Gillies, human resources manager of IssueTrak, serves as a committee member of several volunteer initiatives. Throughout the year, IssueTrak participates in fundraising, volunteering, and sponsorship activities. Building on its rich volunteer legacy, 2011 was another active year for IssueTrak with volunteer efforts that included:
- Serving as an event sponsor at the ForKids Art Auction
- Participating in the United Way Day of Caring at a local SPCA
- Contributing to Clean the Bay Day
- Providing a team in the Annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Run for the Cure, the Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House home tours with the proceeds benefiting Children's Hospital, and the Volunteer Hampton Roads Family Volunteer Day where all of the proceeds from the food drive were assembled for delivery to area shelters
- Collecting over 200 cans of tomato soup for the holiday food drive, and over 300 cans of vegetables for the local Extreme Make-over Home Edition event
- Hosting a back to school drive that resulted in the collection of 48 backpacks and 48 composition notebooks for the Volunteer Hampton Roads Back to School Drive
During the holiday season, IssueTrak hosted 15 at-risk children from Mission of the Holy Spirit for an afternoon of Christmas card crafting, a delicious healthy lunch, and a Target Gift card. The funds for this event were provided in part by the employees and IssueTrak.
The Best Places to Work award honors companies that go above and beyond to create a positive working environment for their employees. Companies must submit information about their culture, annual turnover, employee satisfaction, fair and equitable treatment, compensation, benefits, and employee training opportunities. The judging is based in part on an online survey that employees complete. Now in its ninth year, the award is sponsored by Inside Business, The Hampton Roads Business Journal.
