For the First Time, Instructors Can Create Secure Video Assignments through the LMS, Advancing the Use of Student-Generated Video for Learning and Assessment
Echo360's Secure Video Assignments capability gives instructors more flexibility when creating student video assignments using the LMS, with an option to lock the video submission to editing
RESTON, Va., May 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Echo360, the award-winning video platform for higher education, announced, today, a new solution to improve the creation, submission, and grading of student video assignments. With the release of its Secure Video Assignments feature, both instructors and students can seamlessly complete their video assignment tasks directly in their institution's LMS. And, for the first time, instructors can elect to lock the videos after submission to prevent further editing and updates.
"Instructors have told us that the problem with leveraging student videos for LMS assignments has been the the lack of content control. Video assignments are typically larger files that are embedded in an LMS and, as such, students have had the ability to continue to edit after the assignments have been submitted," said Bill Holding, EVP of product at Echo360. "We listened to this feedback and worked closely with instructors to design a smarter workflow that supports their assignment requirements. Our solution provides the ability for instructors to lock these videos once they've been submitted, effectively providing a secure option for reviewing and assessing student video that's consistent with their grading expectations."
Using the Secure Video Assignments solution, instructors can now create video assignments directly within their LMS using the LMS assignment tool. Students, in turn, can create different types of video for an assignment using the Echo360 Mobile app or Echo360 Universal Capture software, the first-of-its-kind, intuitive video capture solution that functions identically on Mac and Windows. Students can then easily edit and submit videos for grading via the LMS and access their videos at any time in their video library.
Echo360 is the first - and only - video platform to provide instructors with the option to secure student-generated videos during the grading process, in response to demand from higher education leaders. The Secure Video Assignments feature is now available to all Echo360 partner institutions that use Canvas. Integration with other LMSs will become available in the coming weeks.
