CHICAGO, June 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Follett Higher Education Group, operator of nearly 1,200 college campus stores, is proud to sponsor the Thirst Project's 6th Annual Thirst Gala taking place on June 30 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The fundraiser and multi-media exhibit is hosted to promote and raise awareness of the Thirst Project's efforts to build freshwater wells in impoverished communities. The Thirst Project is a student founded non-profit organization committed to ending the world water crisis that currently affects more than 748 million people.
In addition to its sponsorship, Follett is also sending three student contest winners to the star-studded event. Natalia Seth, Sylvia Lai and Kayla Durham were all selected for their passion and individual efforts to make a difference. Through Follett's 2015 "Dirty Little Secret" campaign, Seth helped spread awareness of the water crisis to thousands via Instagram. Through Follett's 2015 "Can You Dig It?" campaign, Lai and Durham joined the Thirst Project team on a 10-day trip to Swaziland to help build and celebrate well projects. A documentary based on the trip will debut at the Thirst Gala.
"Each year, it's remarkable to see the Thirst Project's progress and accomplishments, which are often driven by students," said Don Germano, president of Follett Higher Education Group. "Follett is proud to help millions of students across North America connect with an organization that empowers them to change lives for the better."
This fall, Follett and the Thirst Project will kick off a national school tour to expand the awareness campaign. The Thirst Project Road Warriors will partner with Follett and 100 colleges and universities to coordinate on-campus events for community members to learn more about the water crisis and how they can help today.
