Flipped Learning Global Initiative Introduces 30 Founding International Faculty Members
FLGI recruits a global faculty to support the transition to active learning worldwide
CHICAGO, Jan. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Flipped Learning Global Initiative (FLGI), a worldwide coalition of educators, researchers, technologists, professional development providers and education leaders, announced the launch of the FLGI International Faculty. The new division is comprised of a global cadre of 30 seasoned Flipped Learning practitioners with backgrounds in K12, higher education and corporate talent development. The founding faculty members hail from New Zealand, Indonesia, Italy, Australia, Taiwan, Spain, Argentina, Canada, Malaysia, Belgium, Hong Kong and the United States. The faculty can provide training and support in five languages including English, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Chinese. The International Faculty was created to enable FLGI to deliver a consistent standard of training and ongoing support to schools and school systems anywhere in the world.
"Today, we're celebrating because recruiting and onboarding an international faculty was undeniably our most challenging undertaking to date," said Jon Bergmann, flipped classroom pioneer and Chief Academic Officer at the Flipped Learning Global Initiative. "We started with an overwhelming 558 candidates, so we're very excited about the quality of the 30 faculty who made the final cut. They are an extraordinary group of professionals who are unquestionably among the best in the Flipped Learning community. FLGI is now well positioned to help schools, government agencies, and companies anywhere in the world make the critical leap from passive to active learning."
All faculty members completed a comprehensive training program led by Jon Bergmann who covered both the fundamental and advanced principles of Flipped Learning 3.0. As global collaboration is a defining quality of the evolution in Flipped Learning, all faculty members were required to complete a demanding practicum, and demonstrate proficiency collaborating across cultures, time zones, and disciplines.
Additionally, every faculty member completed immersive training in a high impact organizational culture, and completed units on managing challenging communications, merit-based decision making, and hyper purpose-driven performance. The aim was to create a world-class faculty capable of delivering the highest standard of training in Flipped Learning.
"I have been encouraged and challenged in ways that have taken my understanding of Flipped Learning and my classroom to the next level. I have worked with teachers globally in the past, but this took that experience to a whole new level," said Dan Jones, founding faculty member.
"I'm not sure I've ever felt more supported in an environment that was asking so much of me - both personally and professionally. I knew this experience would change me, but I had no idea how much," said Deborah Rasmussen an instructional technologist in higher education and a founding faculty member.
"The level of expectation for results made me feel like I was on the Millennium Falcon going into hyperspace! My brain switched to a deeper mode. It makes me want to challenge my students in new ways as well!" Jake Habegger, founding faculty member.
