Five Forces Reshaping Cybersecurity: Alan Paller to Keynote SANS Cyber Defense San Diego 2014
Training Event Teaches Security Professionals How to Hone Their Defensive Skills
BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute today announced Alan Paller, Director of Research for the SANS Institute, will offer an early look at how changing technologies and revelations about underlying causes of security failures are reshaping the practice of cybersecurity during a keynote address at the SANS Cyber Defense San Diego 2014 training event to be held November 3-8. Paller will also detail the opportunities these changes provide to security professionals who take advantage of them. The Washington Post called Alan "one of seven people worth knowing in cybersecurity"; don't miss his keynote address.
Also presenting at SANS Cyber Defense San Diego will be Dr. Eric Cole, SANS Faculty Fellow and Director of the SANS Cyber Defense Program. Dr. Cole, a 2014 Infosecurity Europe Hall of Fame Inductee, will offer a technical perspective as he covers an organization's architecture. Dr. Cole will also provide attendees actionable steps they can take to better detect and respond to attacks, and how to improve technical communication back to executives.
Defensive Training
This defense-focused training event is solely dedicated to teaching security professionals how to enhance and hone their defensive skills to excel at preventing attacks, and if an attack is successful, timely detection. Attendees will learn how to protect their career, their organization, and the organization's assets.
Included among the courses offered is SANS' newly released SEC511: Continuous monitoring in the Security Operations Center (SOC) course. This course addresses timely incident detection - the underlying challenge that most organizations victimized by an attack face. Course participants will learn how to analyze threats and detect anomalies that could indicate cybercriminal behavior. The payoff for this new proactive approach is early detection of an intrusion, or successfully thwarting the efforts of attackers altogether.
SANS Cyber Defense San Diego will feature hands-on, immersion-style cyber security training courses for security professionals at all levels. Many of these security courses are aligned with DoD Directive 8570 and most courses are associated with GIAC Certifications.
