NEW YORK, Jan. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its commitment to the advancement of women, Deloitte hosted more than 60 first-year female MBAs from the country's top business schools at Deloitte University in Westlake, TX from January 10-12 for the Deloitte Women's Leadership Launch (DWLL). During the three-day event, the students engaged in interactive modules focused on preparing them to "Own," "Lead," and "Live" their careers and lives.

"The Deloitte Women's Leadership Launch provides a unique opportunity to support women in their pursuit of success following business school," said Terri Cooper, chief inclusion officer, Deloitte Consulting LLP. "In particular, the program strives to help women live life according to the principle of 'less wishbone, more backbone.'"
As part of Deloitte's focus, the DWLL targeted leadership development areas for women, include:
- Developing a personal brand and building a professional network ("Own It")
- Understanding individualized Business Chemistry to achieve common goals ("Lead It")
- Determining how to align expectations of self, significant other and employer ("Live It")
The DWLL conference kicked off with each MBA candidate delivering a one-minute elevator pitch about herself, in private, to a panel of Deloitte practitioners. The practitioners then provided real-time feedback as to how the candidate could enhance her pitch and make it more impactful. This set the tone for the two day event by creating a candid, individualized development environment where the women would challenge themselves and standard conventions.
After completing the "Own It" module, the MBA candidates heard from keynote speaker Fawn Germer, best-selling author, on resilience and embracing obstacles. Between learning the lessons of the "Lead It" module, and creating their own personal action plans from the "Live It" module, the candidates had the opportunity to listen and ask questions of Deloitte business leaders discussing their own perspectives on how to navigate their careers and lives. Lastly, the students determined how they would utilize the network of individuals created throughout the weekend.
"Deloitte believes that a diverse workforce is essential to delivering value to our clients," said Diane Davies, chief talent officer, Deloitte Consulting LLP. "Our goal is to build awareness and advocacy of inclusion as a business and economic imperative."
For the past two decades, Deloitte has continued to amplify its commitment to inclusion in the workplace, expanding its exposure and eminence in this area. We believe every investment made to help women advance in the workplace and in the marketplace yields greater returns for our business, our communities and our economy.
