AutoZone, Inc. Analyst Notes
On May 27, 2014, AutoZone, Inc. (AutoZone) reported its Q3 FY 2014 financial results (period ended May 10, 2014). For the quarter, net sales increased 6.2% YoY to $2.3 billion. Net income was $285.2 million or $8.46 per diluted share in Q3 FY 2014, compared with $265.6 million, or $7.27 per diluted share diluted in Q3 FY 2013. Gross profit as a percentage of sales and operating expenses as a percentage of sales slightly increased to 52.0% and 31.5% in Q3 FY 2014, from 51.8% and 31.1%, respectively, in Q3 FY 2013. The improvement in gross profit was attributable to higher merchandise margins and lower shrinks expense. Meanwhile, the increase in operating expenses was due to higher store payroll and annualizing the benefit recorded last year for the net gain on disposal of certain assets. On May 15, 2014, Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (Advance Auto Parts) announced its Q1 FY 2014 financial results (period ended April 19, 2014). For the quarter, sales increased 47.3% YoY to $3.0 million, driven by the acquisition of General Parts, solid execution delivering a comparable same store sales increase of 2.4%, and the addition of new stores over the 12 month period. Q1 FY 2014 comparable cash earnings per share were $2.25, compared with $1.66 in Q1 FY 2013. Meanwhile, the Company's comparable operating income increased 38.2% YoY to $284.4 million during the quarter. Air Methods Corp Analyst Notes
On May 8, 2014, Air Methods Corp (Air Methods) reported its Q1 2014 financial results. Revenues increased 24.5% YoY to $223.1 million. Q1 2014 net income was $10.8 million, or $0.28 per diluted share, compared with net loss of $5.7 million, or $0.15 per diluted share in Q1 2013. Commenting on the results, Aaron Todd, CEO, Air Methods, said, "As anticipated, our first quarter results reflect a return to more normalized levels as weather was less severe and seasonality variations in payer mix between summer and winter months less extreme.
