REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- A recently published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, indicates that full-year 2010 sales of Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) switch sales are on track to eclipse $2.0 billion, rising 16 percent over 2009 levels. Fibre Channel switch sales dominate the combined market, and have been propelled by user adoption of 8 Gbps. In particular, Cisco's switch sales that were plagued by supply constraints through early 2009 have benefitted by its customer base migrating to its new 8 Gbps products.

"Most FCOE switches are installed in test labs," said Tam Dell'Oro, President of Dell'Oro Group. "We expect a variety of new FCoE switch products to come to market in early 2011, and the subsequent quarters will reveal how users value this new technology compared to Fibre Channel and iSCSI for storage area networking," added Dell'Oro.
The report also reflects and discusses why FCoE is capturing a higher portion of the storage area networking (SAN) adapter market than it is of SAN switches.
The Dell'Oro Group SAN Quarterly Report provides complete, in-depth coverage of the market with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, and port shipments (by speed 4 Gbps, 8 Gbps, and greater than or equal to 16 Gbps) for Fibre Channel switches and Fibre Channel host bus adapters. A supplemental section includes reporting on the FCoE switch market, and manufacturers' detail on FCoE adapters and LOM.
