Ordained in 1979, Fr. John has served the Capuchins as an associate pastor, a high school campus minister, and as the order's Director of Development/Missionary Activity. In 2001, he became executive director of Samaritan House for the Archdiocese of Denver providing services to homeless families, veterans, and single men and women. Fr. John is co-founder of Marked Men For Christ Ministry and regularly offers men's, women's and couple's retreats with Msgr. Ken Leone in the Archdiocese of Denver.
Fr. Lager was the Vocation Director for the Capuchin Province of Mid-America providing discernment opportunities for those considering a religious vocation. He regularly offers spiritual direction for those in seminary and religious formation.
After 40 years of religious life for the Capuchin Province of Mid-America headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Fr. Lager recently completed a ten-month sabbatical during which he worked with FOCUS, studied in Rome and visited missions in Papua New Guinea.
In response to the Church's call for a "new evangelization," FOCUS seeks to communicate the gospel to young adults in a dynamic and culturally relevant way. FOCUS missionaries are typically recent college graduates who devote two or more years of their post-collegiate lives to reach out to their peers on campus. Through genuine friendship and personal investment, FOCUS missionaries invite students into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the fullness of life found in the Catholic Church.
Since it was founded in 1998, FOCUS has grown from two part-time missionaries serving a single campus to the more than 350 full-time missionaries at work on 83 college campuses in 34 states this academic year.
