farfetch.com: Mulberry's Bumper Profits Prove Handbags are Accessible Luxury Fashion
LONDON, July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
- Mulberry celebrated its 40th anniversary by announcing it has more than quadrupled its annual profits due to a rapid increase in demand, farfetch.com says this proves that luxury handbags are providing affordable access to luxury fashion for consumers -
British luxury handbag maker Mulberry recently announced that its annual profits have more than quadrupled, with pre-tax earnings rocketing up by a staggering 358 per cent. farfetch.com, which gives customers access to the best designer boutiques in one easy to shop website, attribute this sudden surge in sales to increased demand for Mulberry's handbags and purses owing to the accessibility of these luxury goods.
Paul Brine, spokesperson for farfetch.com, comments: "More people are starting to turn their backs on the high street and are instead investing in luxury fashion, due in no small part to the increasing availability of these goods. Handbags are particularly popular with our customers as they can act as the central focus for an entire look, breathe new life into a dress that's lost its pizazz and add style to even the most basic of outfits. Customers know that when they buy a designer shoulder bag or purse that they are investing in a high quality piece with timeless elegance rather than an off the shelf high street bag which may either fall apart or be dated looking within months."
According to a results statement released by Mulberry last week, the group saw a 69 per cent sales jump in its 2010-11 financial year and a strong demand in all markets - in the UK alone, the London-listed firm saw sales grow by 39 per cent. Mulberry has had to double its production of its luxury leather bags to meet demand and will increase capacity by 30 per cent at its factory in Somerset to keep up with their expansion.
Brine observes: "Mulberry's handbags have been very popular with farfetch.com's customers for quite some time with iconic designs such as the Bayswater, Mabel, Roxanne and particularly their Alexa bag proving to be big hits. Similarly, Mulberry's line of stylish and understated men's designer bags are very popular with our fashion conscious male customers. Customers recognise that these bags have a longer style lifespan than most and if they ever do fall out of fashion they often see a resurgence at a later point, meaning that every penny spent is as an investment."
