Family Dollar, National Suppliers & Feeding America Team Up for Fundraising Campaign
Customer donations to benefit Feeding America and its nationwide network of food banks
MATTHEWS, N.C., July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Dollar is looking to fight hunger this back-to-school season. The company announced its second-annual "Back to Success" program with Feeding America®, the nation's leading domestic hunger relief charity, for a month-long, in-store fundraising program.
"Family Dollar is thrilled to partner with Feeding America to help families who struggle with hunger," said Gary Philbin, Family Dollar President and Chief Operating Officer. "This fundraising program in our stores is just one of many ways Family Dollar is helping families in the communities we serve."
"More than 1 in 5 children live at risk of hunger in America," said Matt Knott, president of Feeding America. "We are thankful to Family Dollar and its support of Feeding America programs that benefit children and their families who may not know where to find their next meal."
As part of the program Family Dollar will invite customers to donate $1 at the register now through August 15. With their donations, customers will receive a bounce-back coupon for any one of a number of items available in-store from leading suppliers: Unilever, Proctor & Gamble and Kimberly-Clark.
The program was launched Tuesday at a kick-off event at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside. At the event, volunteers from Family Dollar and Unilever assembled 1,200 bags filled with essential items for local children in need. Family Dollar also made a $10,000 donation to the FoodBank during the event.
