GUTTENBERG, Iowa, Feb. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As Iowa families seek alternative learning options that offer a flexible mix of academic rigor and freedom to pursue their child's passions, many are turning to a newer, rapidly growing alternative: online learning.
Iowa Virtual Academy, a tuition-free online public school program for students in grades K-12, is now accepting open enrollment applications for the 2015-2016 school year.
Parents considering enrolling their children in Iowa Virtual Academy (IAVA) or any other public school outside their resident district for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year must submit an application by the state's open enrollment deadline: March 1, 2015 (September 1, 2015 for kindergarten students).
Iowa Virtual Academy's curriculum, powered by K12 Inc., offers dynamic and exciting educational opportunities for families across the state as they consider alternatives to a traditional brick-and-mortar education.
"Iowa Virtual Academy goes places traditional schools can't, from the flexibility of the scheduling to the variety of courses offered," says Steve Hoff, Iowa Virtual Academy Head of School. "More families come to us each year seeking an education individualized to their student's unique academic strengths and weaknesses."
"We'll be traveling the state offering information sessions in the weeks leading up to the open enrollment deadline," Hoff says. "We always meet students and families who are interested in learning about the education options available to them."
In-person information sessions are scheduled in Iowa City, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines beginning the week of February 9th. Interested parents are encouraged to visit the school events page at www.k12.com/IAVA for specific dates, times and locations.
Iowa Virtual Academy might be the right choice for a variety of students, including:
- Advanced learners who are either performing above grade level in one or more subjects or are motivated to increase their knowledge beyond the basic course offerings in specific subjects.
- Students who are seeking relief from bullying, or who have other safety concerns and need a safe and comfortable learning environment.
- Athletes and performers who need classes that can travel with them during practices, rehearsals, and competitions.
- Students looking to get more out of their education.
Submitting an application during the state's open enrollment window does not commit students to enroll in the school, but provides them the option of attending in the fall. To receive more information about the application process, please call 855.652.3931.
