Experts To Examine Private Health Insurance Exchanges At Sun Life Wake Up Summit on April 16
Must-attend event will feature authors of Freakonomics authors Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner and Fox News' Juan Williams
WELLESLEY, Mass., April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. business group of Sun Life Financial Inc. (NYSE: SLF, TSX: SLF) announced today that the company's Sun Life Wake Up Summit on April 16 will feature renowned healthcare experts discussing one of the elements gaining momentum due to rising health care costs and the Affordable Care Act -- private health insurance exchanges.
The Sun Life Summit, which is expected to have more than 3,000 digital participants from across the United States, will provide valuable information to insurance brokers, human resource (HR) professionals and employers as the country moves to implementing the new healthcare legislation that is already changing the United States' employee benefits system.
Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, authors of best-selling books Freakonomics and Super Freakonomics, will deliver the keynote address on decision-making in a changing marketplace and apply their Freakonomics theories to the health benefits system.
"The Sun Life Wake Up Summit is doing something no one has done before by allowing private exchanges to debate the merits of their respective models and to discuss the future of how employee benefits are delivered," said Dan Fishbein, President of Sun Life Financial U.S. "More than 1.2 million workers have already enrolled in private exchanges and this may very well signal the tipping point toward a defined-contribution approach to employee benefits. The Sun Life Summit will explore this and other trends and implications of private exchanges."
Moderated by Fox News' Juan Williams, the Sun Life Summit will feature two panel discussions. The first, which will focus on the different private exchange models, will have panelists debating the pros and cons of each program. The second will feature healthcare experts discussing the growth of private exchanges and how they could potentially change the benefits landscape. Audience members attending both virtually and in-person will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists during the two discussions.
"The Sun Life Wake Up Summit will provide access to industry experts and lively dialogue on both sides of the private exchange debate to help our customers make decisions based on the new healthcare opportunities and best practices," said Terry Mullen, Senior Vice President of Sun Life Financial U.S. Distribution. "This program will allow for unbiased, in-depth conversations about private exchanges that will enable attendees to make the right decisions for their own businesses."
The Sun Life Wake Up Summit will take place on Wednesday, April 16, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. EDT. It will be hosted at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, and be accessible across the country via live streaming. This program has been submitted for general credit hours toward PHR, SPHR, and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute. Those interested in participating in the 2014 Sun Life Wake Up Summit can register at www.sunlifesummit.com.
This is the second in a series of Summits hosted by Sun Life Financial. The inaugural Sun Life Summit, hosted in October 2013, focused on the changing healthcare landscape and the impact the Affordable Care Act has on the U.S. workplace. The first event was attended by thousands of employers and benefits professionals. The topic of private exchanges was selected for the second Sun Life Summit based on the audience's interest in the topic and desire to delve deeper into the issue.
