eVoter Established as Premier Voter Resource in 2010 Illinois Primary
Website reaches 146,000 with primary election information
CHICAGO, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- eVoter (http://www.eVoter.com), the first online destination where candidates, voters and endorsing organizations connect, reached 146,000 Illinois voters—approximately 8.5 percent of primary voters—leading up to Election Day on February 2.
According to Adam Kravitz, CEO of Political Technologies, the site had a 1000 percent increase in traffic in the days leading up to the Illinois primary. In all, more than 120,000 customized ballots were rendered on eVoter and many candidates received thousands of views to their profiles.
"At $100 per profile, candidates reached motivated voters for fractions of a penny per voter contact," said Kravitz. "With so many heavily contested races this election cycle, the impact can't be underestimated for candidates with profiles on eVoter."
eVoter is a non-partisan election website that allows voters to locate their polling place, generate and print a customized ballot, and donate to campaigns. In addition to voter tools, candidates can purchase and customize an online profile, and endorsing organizations can widely publicize their candidate endorsements on eVoter.
eVoter made its debut in November in Illinois, which had the nation's first primary election in 2010. Owned and operated by Miami-based Political Technologies, eVoter will be available in more than a half-dozen states by the 2010 general election and all 50 states by 2012.
"Before eVoter, there wasn't a single website that provided voters with everything they need to know for Election Day," said Philip Muller, president of Political Technologies. "The high traffic leading up to the election proves there's an obvious need for a one-stop online resource like eVoter. Voters from every corner of Illinois spent a lot of time per visit on eVoter and viewed several pages to educate themselves. We were gratified by the high level of fan mail we received from not just voters and organizations, but also party organizations and election officials in all 110 counties across the state."
A variety of organizations from the Sierra Club to Illinois Right to Life to Personal PAC publicized their endorsements on eVoter, allowing voters to easily filter their ballots by their issue of choice. Many of these organizations had direct links to eVoter, so their members could easily find their endorsements.
According to Muller, in the days leading up to Election Day, major candidates—both Republican and Democrats—and organizations, such as church and community groups, linked to eVoter so their supporters could see their ballot and find their polling place.
eVoter established partnerships with major media outlets, including Sun-Times Media LLC (www.suntimes.com) and NBC5 in Chicago (www.nbcchicago.com), with eVoter providing comprehensive election information to their websites.
"With eVoter, Sun-Times Media had the only newspaper websites in Illinois that gave their readers complete ballot information, down to the smallest office and local referenda, and complete polling place information throughout the state," said Andrew Greb, classified interactive project manager at Sun-Times Media.
Frank Whittaker, station manager/vice president of news at NBC5 Chicago added, "We were pleased to be able to provide our website users an advance look at their ballot and the location of their polling places. Many of our viewers took advantage of eVoter in the days leading up to the election."
eVoter will have its Illinois General Election site up this week. The next state to offer eVoter will be California, which has its primary election on June 8.
