WASHINGTON, July 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia announced that Squire Patton Boggs, a globally-recognized law firm, has been selected to help advise on the RFK Stadium-Armory Campus redevelopment project. In collaboration with Events DC, Squire Patton Boggs will help support legislative efforts related to the transformational RFK redevelopment project with the appropriate parties from Congress and the Executive Branch.
"We are tremendously excited to bring Squire Patton Boggs on board to work with us on a federal legislative strategy to help secure the future of the RFK Campus. They have an impressive team who will work with Events DC, our Delegate in the House, and our city partners – the Mayor and Council – on federal, executive and legislative matters related to the 190-acre RFK Campus site," said Max Brown, chairman of Events DC Board of Directors. "This collaboration between the District and federal partners will enable us to reimagine the RFK Campus – a truly once-in-a-generation opportunity to revitalize a vitally important area of the city and better connect it to the residents who live here and future visitors."
The 190-acres of the RFK Campus site is owned by the federal government and controlled by the National Park Service. Currently, Washington, DC holds a lease through 2038 that allows the property to be used for sports and recreational purposes only. To move forward with the redevelopment of the RFK Campus site plan, the team at Squire Patton Boggs will develop and execute a strategy to extend our leasehold interest or explore a land transfer for the RFK Campus site.
"Squire Patton Boggs is honored to have been chosen to represent Events DC. With our deep roots in the District of Columbia, our decades of experience, and our strong track record of success in the representation of municipal governments and other public entities, we are well-equipped to help Events DC achieve its objectives in the community, and we are proud to be a part of this effort," said Dave Schnittger, spokesman for Squire Patton Boggs' Public Policy Practice.
As part of the greater RFK Stadium-Armory Campus redevelopment project, Events DC continues to maintain an open dialogue with the community as well as receive the appropriate approvals from necessary government and regulatory agencies in an effort to move forward with the proposed short-term elements for the Campus. The five short-term community-focused elements will be built over the next two – five years. These elements also remain consistent with the long-term vision and goals for creating a better connected and vibrant destination within the District.
The RFK Campus redevelopment project's funding sources include Events DC, as well as public and private partners. Specific partners will continue to be identified and announced as plans for the Campus continue to progress. This project falls directly within Events DC's mission to drive entertainment, sports and tourism in the District – as well as economic and community benefits.
Squire Patton Boggs is a full-service global law firm, providing insight and counsel where law, business and government meet.
