John Krasinski announced Esurance's Twitter sweepstakes in a television commercial that aired on FOX at the conclusion of tonight's game.
Appearing on camera with a giant pallet of money, Krasinski told viewers all they need to do to have a shot at winning $1.5 million — the largest single amount of money ever given away using the Twitter platform — was tweet #EsuranceSave30.*
The entry period for the sweepstakes lasts until 1:00 a.m. PST on February 4, and the winner will be revealed Wednesday night during Jimmy Kimmel Live! on February 5, at 11:35pm | 10:35pm CT on ABC.
This was the first time Esurance purchased national advertising associated with one of the year's biggest media events, and in keeping with their uber- efficient approach to insurance, they opted for air time immediately following the game. Compared to an in-game commercial, the post-game time slot provided a 30 percent savings (totaling $1.5 million), and Esurance is passing those savings to one consumer using the simplest, most modern means available.
"Twitter is a smart, modern way for people to communicate, and millions of people are using it. It's the perfect way for Esurance to conduct this major giveaway over a short time period, connect with those fans and offer them a chance to win $1.5 million dollars," said Esurance Vice President of Marketing Darren Howard. "The ease of use and the speed with which Twitter enables people to connect and share experiences parallels Esurance's incredible efficiency in revolutionizing the way consumers shop for and buy insurance, with car insurance quotes that can be completed in only 7.5 minutes."
Krasinski has been the voice of Esurance's "Insurance for the Modern World®" advertising campaign since its launch in December 2011. Tonight's commercial was the first time that he appeared on camera as part of that campaign, which was developed by Leo Burnett Chicago and has been hugely successful in positioning Esurance as an innovative leader in a highly competitive industry.
"We're giving people 1.5 million reasons to consider Esurance," said Susan Credle, Leo Burnett's chief creative officer. "We think they are making what might be the biggest play of the game. This bold, creative statement reflects the brand's efficient approach to insurance."
