Employers Seek Unified Communications to Reduce Costs and Increase Productivity
LONDON, July 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Enabling Unified Communications for staff would reduce costs in the long run and dramatically increase productivity according to 57% of employers in a survey carried out by Powwownow, the UK's leading free conference call service, and online poll company Toluna.
Unified Communications (UC) is a way to combine different modes of technology which allow the user to share data and communicate across one platform, thereby creating a more integrated and efficient work environment. Whilst there may be initial costs in setting up the UC platform, more than half of 1,091 people surveyed across the UK see this innovation as a crucial long-term investment; one that could ultimately save money as multiple devices and gadgets will no longer be needed and travel and office space costs will also be reduced.
Companies can also potentially improve collaboration and productivity among co-workers, partners, suppliers and customers by combining all devices under one roof, as 54% of those surveyed who believe working life would be made easier if there was central system by which to feed all communications. Coupled with the growing trend of remote-access and video-conferencing - 69% of respondents said their business already allows remote/flexible working - professionals and businesses alike can be reached anytime and anywhere.
With less than a month to go until London hosts the 2012 Olympic Games, it is clear than many businesses are looking for alternatives to help minimise any disruption the event is likely to cause to staff - 46% said they would seriously consider using a UC product (instant messaging, chat, audio conferencing, web sharing, and video calling).
Other perceived UC benefits cited in the survey were: continuity across all processes, being able to respond to queries faster, not missing important deadlines/messages, staff feeling more engaged and part of a team.
Simon Curry, CEO of Powwownow, said: "Times are changing and today's workforce has to adapt in order to stay ahead. We have an abundance of technology at our fingertips and UC will only make it easier now for businesses to streamline communications and in turn be in a better position to service customers. UC is on its way to becoming and integral cog in the way businesses communicate; it's up to us not to resist."
