Employers Honored for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness
Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce honored 20 companies at the 2012 Celebration of Sloan Awards for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility
CHICAGO, Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Judy Hsu, co-anchor of ABC7 Chicago News This Morning, presented awards today to the Chicagoland winners and finalists of the 2012 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility for their exemplary workplace practices.
The 23 worksites of 20 companies were identified through a rigorous selection process, which involved an evaluation of employers' flexibility programs and practices and a confidential employee survey at worksite locations. Flexibility includes such practices as compressed workweeks, alternate work schedules, telecommuting and part-time and job share opportunities. The survey also looked at transportation opportunities like rideshare and shuttles to take the stress out of getting to and from work along with quality of life benefits for healthcare, childcare and eldercare.
Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce is the official host of the 2012 awards in metropolitan Chicago. The Sloan Awards has been an annual project of the Chamber's Workplace Well-Being Committee chaired by Chamber Board Director Dr. Paul Handel, Health Care Services Corporation. Award winning companies recognize the work-life benefits of flexibility for the health of employees and for productivity of the company.
Over 140 guests began the celebration with visits to 12 resource exhibits of behavioral health and employee assistance services. Judy Hsu was an appropriate emcee as she is a role model for balancing family and career. She understands that flexibility has helped employees to be able to be better parents, which is a special interest of hers.
The awards presentation was followed by remarks from Dan Conti, Senior Vice President Human Resources & Employee Assistance Programs & Work-Life at JPMorgan Chase. He brought together the subtle connections between workplace effectiveness, flexibility and work-life and employee assistance programs. He emphasized that in today's work both the company and the employee have responsibility in scheduling adequate periods of work and then recovery just like the athletes do.
