WASHINGTON and DANVERS, Mass., June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Eliza Corporation ("Eliza"), the pioneer and recognized leader in Health Engagement Management, today unveiled consumer research and insights about the benefits of health data and online personal health tools. Eliza's research was conducted in support of a nationwide campaign by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) to educate and engage the public on the value and benefits of health information technology (health IT).

As a participating member of ONC's Blue Button Pledge Program -- designed to enhance the ways consumers get and share their health information -- Eliza developed, fielded, and performed research and analysis on engaging consumers in conversation about their attitudes toward, and use of health data, with ONC offering its subject matter expertise. Eliza also applied its proprietary Vulnerability Index™ approach to help the ONC better understand the needs of individuals and populations, including the specific challenges they face and the ways in which they manage access to their health information.
The subsequent analysis offers unique and actionable market insights into how various stakeholders – including developers, healthcare providers, payors, and government agencies – can develop targeting and messaging strategies that will drive engagement and use of health data and personal health tools in the name of better care, and better health.
"There are more than 450 organizations participating in ONC's Blue Button Pledge Program," said Lygeia Ricciardi, Director of the ONC Office of Consumer eHealth. "Consumer psychology related to health is extremely complex, and we are particularly excited about efforts by members of our Pledge Program that help to shed light on how to engage individuals through technology to more actively participate in their health."
Key insights from Eliza's research will be presented during a panel discussion at the Health Data Initiative Conference (Health Datapalooza) titled Engaging Patients in Research and Tool Development. Examples of insights to be presented include:
- The three most important reasons consumers access personal health information online, as well as some surprising revelations on what's not as popular
- Which key populations – such as those caring for an aging parent or those who are experiencing one or more health issues – are more likely to access (and demand access to) online health records
- Opportunities to engage with early technology adopters – in particular those who benefit from online banking tools – to drive use and acceptance of accessing and managing health data online
"We each need to navigate our own path to optimal health, and that requires a healthcare system that views us holistically and provides the experience, data, tools, and communication strategies to let us take the reins, in partnership with our providers, without breaking the personal or collective bank. People have busy lives and unique needs -- technology products and tools like Blue Button that consider reality and meet people where they are in their lives are an essential part of the healthcare reality we're all building toward," said Alexandra Drane, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer at Eliza Corporation. "It is an honor to share our research and insights as part of ONC's mission to drive adoption of the health tools and technologies that will have the biggest impact on our nation's health."
