Electrolux Induction Cooktop Takes On Electric And Gas Counterparts In A Live Cooktop Challenge
Live-Streaming Competition Follows Three Chefs On Three Different Cooktops As They Prepare The Same Crowd-Sourced Side Dish
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With the holiday entertaining season just around the corner, Electrolux is on a mission to share the benefits of induction cooking technology with home chefs who will host countless dinner parties in the coming months. Today at 1 p.m. EST, Electrolux will host "The Electrolux Live Cooktop Challenge," a live-streaming competition in partnership with Food52, which will pit three chefs against each other as they put sleek, high performance Electrolux cooktops to the test to see which technology (electric, gas or induction) wins out when preparing the same crowd-sourced side dish recipe.
Induction technology and kitchen appliances have been a main-stay in fine European homes and restaurants for many years, but have been slower to catch on as a category in the United States. Via this live cooking challenge Electrolux will demonstrate the benefits of professionally-inspired induction technology over gas and electric. Favored to win the competition, induction cooking technology is faster, more responsive and has more precise temperature control than electric or gas cooktops.
With induction cooking heat is generated directly in the cookware rather than the cooktop itself. This transfer of heat directly to the cookware via magnetic energy provides many consumer advantages including significantly increased energy efficiency and responsiveness, providing the ability to go from a boil to delicate simmer instantaneously. Also, because the cookware is the heat source the cooktop itself remains cool to the touch, allowing for much easier clean-up.
"Using induction is like experiencing cooking in high definition – it brings everything to a whole new level by merging the power of gas with the easy clean-up of electric," says John Weinstock, Vice President Marketing for Electrolux Major Appliances in North America. "Many professional chefs actually prefer cooking with induction because it not only combines the benefits of other cooktop technologies, but surpasses them in the precise and responsive control it is able to provide. We are thrilled to help bring these benefits to life for viewers at home through this exciting live event."
The live, thirty-minute competition that will be streamed in real time on www.food52.com/electrolux-live-cook-off will be hosted by Merrill Stubbs, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Food52.com, and Amanda Hesser, Founder and CEO of Food52. The competitors will be Phoebe Lapine, cookbook author, private chef, culinary instructor, caterer and author of popular blog "Feed Me Phoebe;" Camille Becerra, a NYC based chef, restaurateur and former "Top Chef Season 3" contestant; and Jennifer Perillo, home cook extraordinaire, former food editor, restaurateur and author of top food blog "In Jennie's Kitchen."
During the live-stream, fans will have the opportunity to engage virtually with the chefs and hosts about the recipes, cooking techniques and cooktop technologies. Participants in the discussion will be automatically entered for the chance to win an Electrolux Induction Free Standing Range or an Electrolux Induction Cooktop of their own.
Electrolux induction technology is available as a Free Standing Range (MSRP $2,199) or as a cooktop (MSRP $2,199) that also includes the "Power Assist" feature which boils water in only 90 seconds.
