MONTICELLO, Minn., Sept. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The "air tightness" of today's newer homes is truly remarkable. Because of stringent manufacturing techniques and building code requirements, products that keep our homes weatherproof and draft-free make our homes incredibly airtight; therefore, reducing heating and cooling costs. This primarily applies to homes built after 1985.

The use of spray foam, self-stick open cell foam covered in plastic or vinyl, tape, magnets or interlocking metal prevent air infiltration. Insulation in the walls and roof also prevents air movement. Caulking, available in a variety of compounds, seals smaller cracks, gaps and joints further preventing air movement.
Naturally moving air is not able to come in or go out of our newer homes.
Some of the negative side effects of homes unable to "breathe" may include:
- Risk of carbon monoxide pollution due to air entering through furnace flues
- Risk of radon contamination through your home's foundation
- Ineffective or inefficient exhaust fans unable to overcome pressure differences
These negative side effects have now come to the attention of the governments of many countries, including the United States.
According to Section 1503.4 of the 2009 International Residential Code, the solution must meet two requirements: 1) Make-up air should be supplied at approximately the same rate as the exhaust ventilation. 2) Equipment for make-up air should be automated and synchronized with exhaust.
Electro Industries, a 42-year-old design and manufacturing company from Minnesota, has the answer.
John Seefeldt, President of Electro says, "An automated, effective, reliable and affordable answer for the airtight home is our Packaged Make-Up Air unit."
Electro Industries' Packaged Make-Up Air units are designed for today's tighter homes where unhealthy negative pressure can be created by appliances such as kitchen vent hoods, fireplaces, dryers, gas furnaces, water heaters, bathroom exhaust fans or any appliance without sealed combustion.
Electro's high efficiency, electric Make-Up Air units provide fresh air to prevent negative pressure in your home or building, reducing backdrafting combustion gasses that could create a health risk.
International Residential Code (IRC) requires exhaust hood systems in excess of 400 CFM to have make-up air approximately equal to the exhaust air and to automatically open and close with the operation of the fan.
Electro's Make-Up Air unit is made in the USA and has electronic programmed logic, inlet and outlet temperature sensors, integrated powered inlet damper, aluminum mesh permanent washable filter, and offers simple horizontal or vertical installation with an included mounting kit.
A variety of sizes are available, complete with a 20-year finned rod heating element warranty and a 2-year parts warranty.
