Clift, known in the hospice world for her most recent book, Two Weeks of Life: A Memoir of Love, Death and Politics is about the loss of her husband and the controversial "Schiavo affair," which at the same time was gripping the nation. Her story alternates between the two and provides a moving commentary on how we deal, or fail to deal with dying in modern America.
"We are fortunate to have Eleanor serve as this year's Mistress of Ceremonies," said J. Donald Schumacher, NHF's president & CEO. "She brings insight into the complex world around us, understanding of the work we do to care for the dying, and humor and warmth and will help make this a gala to remember."
The eighth annual NHF gala will be held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at National Harbor, MD. This year's theme is Celebrating the Women of Hospice: A Salute to Heroines and Humanitarians. The evening's program will celebrate the heroines that began the movement of hospice and palliative care with a focus on the leaders who continue to make an impact today.
The annual gala supports programs that educate professionals, raise awareness, expand access, and raise the bar on quality of the nation's hospice and palliative care community.
Information about gala sponsorship opportunities, tickets, and the auction, can be found on the NHF website, www.nationalhospicefoundation.org/2012gala.
