EHE International Supports Stand Up To Cancer with Rockefeller Center Window Display
Image Pays Tribute to the Men and Women Working Each Day in the Fight Against Cancer
NEW YORK, Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Actor Jimmy Smits appears in a Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) window display at Rockefeller Plaza this month that honors the men and women involved in the fight against cancer, conveying the critical role collaboration plays in their efforts. Donated by EHE International, the window at 10 Rockefeller Plaza will house the display until the end of August.
Adapted from a Stand Up To Cancer PSA campaign with GlaxoSmithKline, the display features Smits surrounded by actual doctors, nurses, survivors, caregivers and patient advocates who are serving on the front line of the fight against the disease every day. The display's message, "When we all stand up, cancer will stand down," emphasizes the importance of collaboration -- a core component of the Stand Up To Cancer movement.
"Through this display, we want to illustrate how each and every one of us can play a role in the effort to end cancer," said Kathleen Lobb, co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer, "and encourage everyone to stand up with us."
Cancer will take the lives of over 570,000 Americans this year and over 8 million people worldwide. One in two men and one in three women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes.
Stand Up To Cancer's innovative approach to funding research brings together scientists from leading institutions across the country and internationally to work together, accelerating the discovery of new therapies for cancer patients and advancing efforts in cancer prevention research. Stand Up To Cancer also awards Innovative Research Grants to individual investigators pursuing high-risk, potentially high-reward cancer research. Currently, 355 scientists from 55 institutions are involved in SU2C-funded research projects.
Stand Up To Cancer produced two "roadblock" televised fundraising events in 2008 and 2010. The second telecast aired on NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX, as well as fourteen cable channels, and was viewed in more than 195 countries.
"EHE International is pleased to offer the window to Stand Up To Cancer to help raise public awareness in support of one cause: finding a cure for cancer. We all hope to educate people about this complicated disease, and about the work Stand Up To Cancer is doing to find a cure. We encourage everyone to educate themselves about the disease, and recognize and act on any warning signs or symptoms of cancer they might be experiencing," said Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International.
