Easter Seals New York Commemorates Another Exceptional Year With Their New York City and Long Island Annual Meeting
NEW YORK, Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Easter Seals New York celebrates another exceptional year of program growth with its New York City and Long Island Annual Meeting on November 9th. The Annual Meeting will gather the organization's local supporters as well as recognize individuals and corporations who have significantly impacted our programs and services for individuals with disabilities or special needs during 2009-2010.
Easter Seals New York has seen substantial program growth and enrichment over the last year. The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) has been awarded 304 additional slots by the federal government, resulting in approximately $1 million in increased revenue, and allowing the program to expand and help nearly 800 mature adults transition out of poverty and achieve self sufficiency. The Bronx Child Development Center has expanded its curriculum beyond core essential services to include many enrichment activities including educational field trips, healthy eating programs and other extracurricular programs for children with disabilities or special needs. The New York Warriors, Easter Seals New York's quadriplegic rugby team, had an exciting year competition as they traveled around the county for tournaments, exhibition games and other events.
"It is truly exciting to see how we continue to grow each year," says John L. Mascialino, State Chairman of the Board and shareholder of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, "and the Annual Meeting is a great forum in which to recognize the organization's leaders whose impact and support has helped to make us so successful."
The Annual Meeting serves as an event and awards ceremony for supporters and leaders of the organization. This year's New York City and Long Island Annual Meeting will be held at the 3 West Club in Manhattan, and will include a reception, program and awards ceremony. This event also serves as an opportunity to introduce the faces of the organization, this year's program Ambassadors.
"Our Ambassadors exemplify the diverse programs and services that we offer in New York City and Long Island," says John W. McGrath, Senior Vice President of Organizational Development for Easter Seals New York, "we are able to reach a wide variety of individuals with disabilities or special needs because of the quality of our services and because of our wide network of support. The Annual Meeting is a celebration of all these accomplishments."
For almost 90 years, Easter Seals New York has been at the forefront of providing exceptional services throughout the state to ensure that all people with disabilities or special needs have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities. Last year, Easter Seals New York directly touched the lives of more than 10,000 individuals and their families. In New York City and Long Island, Easter Seals New York served more than 1000 individuals in 2010. These programs include early intervention and preschool special education to children with disabilities or special needs; a Senior Community Service Employment Program and a quadriplegic rugby team.
