EarlySense Awarded Federal Supply Schedule Agreement With the Department of Veteran Affairs
WALTHAM, Massachusetts, September 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
EarlySense®, the market leader in Proactive Patient Care Solutions, today announced that it has been awarded Federal Supply Schedule Contract (V797P-4344B) with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for The EarlySense System. The contract was awarded by the US Government following a detailed due diligence process.
The EarlySense System, which is currently installed in multiple VA Medical Centers, allows caregivers to place a contact-free sensor under the mattress, or within a cushion of a chair and monitor Patients Heart Rate, Respiratory Rate and Motion on a continuous basis. This award will streamline the purchasing process for Veterans Affairs Medical Centers to gain easier access to the EarlySense System, a solution designed for proactive and personalized patient care for general care non-ICU patients. The Veterans Health Administration is America's largest integrated health care system with over 1,700 sites of care, serving 8.76 million Veterans each year.
Constant surveillance of patients and getting to the patient before a potentially adverse event has occurred drives better clinical results. The EarlySense Monitoring System will allow the VA hospitals to facilitate timely interventions for Veterans in non-ICU settings by adding a layer of care with continuous monitoring and drawing attention to those who may show early signs of deterioration or excess motion and may require clinical intervention.
A recent outcome study of more than 7,600 patients published in the American Journal of Medicine showed the rate of Code Blue events decreased by 86% partially due to early detection of deterioration. Additionally, the average stay in the ICU for a patient transferred from the medical-surgical unit was reduced by 45% which translated in a reduction of almost 2 days per patient admission. A 9% decrease in the overall length of stay on the medical-surgical unit was documented in the study as well. In addition, clinicians report that patient Falls from Bed and Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers were also reduced by motion monitoring and response with the EarlySense System.
EarlySense incorporates a sensor placed under the bed mattress or within a chair cushion, without ever having to touch the patient, leaving the patient unburdened by cumbersome attachments. Meanwhile, the VA clinical staff can gain a better understanding of each veteran to ensure care is customized and personalized.
"We are excited that it will now be easier for additional VA Medical Centers to offer this higher level of patient care to help improve outcomes for our Veterans." said Todd Barnett, Director of Government and Strategic Accounts for EarlySense. "In addition, EarlySense has been working within individual VA Medical Centers in an effort to assist them in improving the overall care delivered to Veterans," continued Barnett.
