Dr. Wade Horn of Deloitte Appointed to Commission on Key National Indicators
WASHINGTON, Jan. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte announced today that Wade F. Horn, Ph.D., director, Deloitte Consulting LLP has been appointed to the United States Commission on Key National Indictors by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky). Dr. Horn is one of eight appointments to the commission, which will provide broad oversight of a newly established system of key national indicators. Horn's term is for three years.
The bipartisan commission, established by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and appointed equally by the majority and minority leaders of the Senate and the Speaker and minority leader of the House of Representatives, goes far beyond health care. Four commissioners will serve for two years while another four will serve three year terms. The commissioners will oversee the development of a new Key National Indicator System (KNIS) – in concert with the National Academy of Sciences− to help Americans better assess the position and progress of the U.S.
The commission will set forth guidelines with the National Academy of Sciences for implementation of the KNIS. The ultimate goal of the commission is to serve the public by providing a factual and data-based indication of the major issues affecting the U.S. These issues include: the economy, innovation, families, youth and children, education, infrastructure, energy, health and the environment. The measures will be available to the public, free, through a web-based information system.
"The establishment of a National Indicator System is an important step toward advancing ourselves on critical issues facing our nation where methods for determining progress are either not yet established or not widely understood," said Horn. "It is imperative that we identify areas of measurement and a means for reporting the results that are not arbitrary, but clear and actionable. It is a privilege to be a part of the inaugural commission, and I look forward to getting started."
Horn serves as an advisor to health and human services clients in the state government sector. Formerly, he was the assistant secretary for the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Horn has also been a presidential appointee to the National Commission on Children and a member of the U.S. Advisory Board on Welfare Indicators.
