PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The WIRB-Copernicus Group ("WCG"), the world's largest provider of regulatory and ethical review services for clinical research, today announced the recent appointment of Lindsay McNair, M.D., M.P.H., M.S.B., to the new position of Chief Clinical Research Officer. Dr. McNair will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships and will oversee WCG's Consulting Division supporting pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, providing expert advice on matters related to clinical trial design, study startup and ethical policies. Dr. McNair will be based out of WCG's headquarters in Princeton, NJ.

For more than 13 years, Dr. McNair has been actively involved with Institutional Review Boards ("IRBs"). Prior to joining WCG, she acted as a consultant to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, providing medical guidance on clinical development strategies and designs for new drug studies, as well as handling medical oversight of all phases of clinical trials. She has worked with the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs ("AAHRPP") to perform on-site evaluations and inspections of HRPP and IRB programs to ensure that standards for accreditation were met. Previously, she served as Senior Director of Medical Affairs at Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Director of Medical Affairs/Medical Operations at Antigenics, Inc.

Dr. McNair is an adjunct faculty member at Boston University and teaches graduate-level courses on the scientific design of clinical research studies and the development of clinical study protocols. She holds a Master's of Science in Bioethics (M.S.B.) degree, with a concentration in Research Ethics, from Union Graduate College; a Master's of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree from the Boston University School of Public Health; received her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine; and has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology from Trinity College.
In addition, Dr. McNair is currently the Associate Editor and an Editorial Board member of the Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research Ethics, a peer reviewer for the Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics, and a member of the Ethics Committee for the Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston.
