JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Missouri Democratic Party Chairwoman Susan Montee and Congressman Russ Carnahan will hold a press call on Wednesday, August 24 at 9 am to discuss the GOP's willingness to raise taxes on the middle class.

Last year, President Obama lowered the payroll tax, and he wants to keep that rate low-but Republicans want to raise it. That would result in increasing taxes on nearly 160 million American families. Republicans have advocated for a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans, but they refuse to stand with middle class families who are working hard to make ends meet. The Republican presidential candidates have flip-flopped on the issue. Now it's time they owe voters a final answer: do they agree with Congressional Republicans that the middle class should pay more taxes?
