A first-of-its-kind investment for Intel, the company will use CURIOSITY as a global marketing platform in more than 40 countries, with key partnership elements including four CURIOSITY premiere episodes; integration into Curiosity.com, the exclusive and extensive online platform; participation in CURIOSITY's education initiatives with Discovery Education, as well as comprehensive social, mobile and marketing programs.
"We are incredibly proud to partner with Intel on CURIOSITY and what we believe is a perfect fit of corporate missions. Just as Discovery has focused its 25-year mission on satisfying viewers' curiosity about the world around them, Intel is driven to advance how people work and live," said Clark Bunting, president and general manager Discovery Channel.
"Intel is proud to be the sole global sponsor of CURIOSITY, but it's a shame to call this a sponsorship," said Nancy Bhagat, vice president of Intel marketing strategy. "The partnership between Discovery Communications and Intel pushes the envelope in how we can jointly drive innovation and create better content for consumers. Curiosity is inherent in all of us and Intel was particularly driven by the theme as it relates to the company's ongoing curiosity and passion for developing technologies that will change how we think and act."
The partnership pairs Discovery Communications' quality content with Intel's high-quality technology allowing viewers worldwide, across multimedia platforms to be actively involved in asking questions, searching for answers and sparking curiosity. Primary elements of Intel's partnership for CURIOSITY include the following:
CURIOSITY THE SERIES
A robust part of the CURIOSITY series launch will be Intel's role as presenting partner on four premiere episodes and broad exposure in all 16 episodes of the first season. Scheduled to launch on Discovery Channel in the United States on Aug. 7 and in more than 210 countries and territories around the world in September, the landmark series will explore topics ranging from intelligence and neuroscience to nanotechnology.
Discovery will create short-form vignettes featuring Intel employees discussing what sparks their curiosity. In addition, Intel will be the centerpiece of a specially created "What Makes Us Curious" in-program feature to air during each episode of CURIOSITY season one, designed to engage viewers to further satisfy their curiosity by going online to gather more information about specific topics.
Additional on-air elements include tagged tune-in messaging, CURIOSITY Q&A podbusters and presenting partner billboards. To broaden the reach of the partnership, Intel will also leverage the property in more than 40 countries spanning five continents during global premiere of the series throughout the fourth quarter of 2011, with each local market developing locally driven and relevant activation plans to promote the series.
CURIOSITY.COM
The sweeping Intel partnership launched on Curiosity.com, the robust website featuring "deep dive" content that expands beyond the questions explored in the television series, and draws input from some of the greatest visionaries, scholars and trendsetters of our time. The site is filled with content from a distinguished group of thought leaders across various fields who serve as the founding experts and the cornerstone of the site. Several Intel employees are featured and integrated into the content on Curiosity.com. Intel also has homepage exposure, branded video, custom profile pages and podcasts and branding in select topic areas such as nanotechnology, computing, neuroscience and space exploration.
"SPARK YOUR CURIOSITY" EDUCATION INITIATIVE
In keeping with both companies' deep commitment to and experience in the Education space, Discovery Education, the leader in digital, video-based learning, will develop for Intel a co-branded "Spark Your Curiosity" online portal destination for middle and high school educators, students and families. Serving more than half of all U.S. schools with curriculum solutions that are scientifically shown to improve student achievement, Discovery Education's "Spark Your Curiosity" initiative will feature six, standards-aligned companion curriculum topics drawn from the compelling questions examined in CURIOSITY the series and online at Curiosity.com to engage the nation's students in the critical disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math. "Spark Your Curiosity" will launch in the third quarter of 2011.
