Dirty Oil and Dirty Politics Make Interesting Bedfellows; 2012 Documentary Film Exposes Koch Brothers
Herman Cain's "Brother from Another Mother"
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- News analysts agree that the ongoing sexual harassment allegations against Herman Cain do not bode well for his political campaign. Cain has been dodging questions about these allegations while bragging of his alliance with the Americans for Prosperity, referring to the group's patrons, conservative billionaires David and Charles Koch as his "brother from another mother."
The documentary "Greedy Lying Bastards," set for release in 2012, reports Koch Industries and Exxon Oil have each spent nearly $25 million to dispel claims of global warming. It is tough to right the wrongs of the fossil fuel industry when it wields so much influence over energy and environmental policies in the U.S. and around the world. On January 1, 2010, the Supreme Court handed down a decision that will forever change the course of democracy in the United Sates. The ruling, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, No. 08-205, overruled two precedents: Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce, a 1990 decision that upheld restrictions on corporate spending to support or oppose political candidates, and McConnell v. Federal Election Commission, a 2003 decision that upheld the part of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 that restricted campaign spending by corporations and unions. The impartiality of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was raised because of a political strategy event in which he seems to have participated. The event was a four day political strategy conference sponsored by the Koch brothers in Palm Springs. The guest list included anyone who could help further their agenda.
The documentary explores the reasons behind stalled efforts to tackle climate change despite consensus in the scientific community that it is not only a reality, but a growing problem that is placing us on the brink of disaster. This is what David Koch had to say about carbon regulation: "I think it's uh, regulating CO2 excessively is going to put- uh really damage the economy. It does fluctuate. It goes from hot to cold. We have ice ages." Senior Scientist of NOAA, Pieter Tans addresses this in the documentary, when he states: "What does Climate Change really imply? That we may have to make some serious changes to our economic system, and they didn't want to go there. They were comfortable with the way things are." Greedy Lying Bastards exposes the people and organizations casting doubt on climate science and claims that greenhouse gases are not affected by human behavior. The principal denier is Koch Industries, Americans for Prosperity and the Presidential candidates they support.
Filmmaker and political activist Craig Rosebraugh said, "One of the most damning erosions of U.S. democracy came at the hands of the Supreme Court in the recent Citizen's United decision. Billionaires like David Koch can now ensure their paid-for politicians like 'brother from another mother' Herman Cain are elected into office."
