Digestive Issues Limit Choice Of Travel Destination For One In Three Vacationers
Survey Illustrates Travelers Worried Some Trips Will be Hard to Digest
CROMWELL, Conn., June 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- One out of every three travelers would be more adventurous in planning their excursions if not for fear of gastrointestinal (GI) issues, found a recent survey commissioned by Culturelle® Probiotic, a leading national probiotic supplement brand.

The survey also revealed that nearly one out of five travelers have had to cancel or postpone their trips due to stomach issues and digestive problems such as digestive upset and occasional diarrhea. Furthermore, a full 25% of respondents had to miss out on local foods due to digestive concerns and 14% have had to alter their trip because of fears of digestive trouble.
While a vacation is intended to rest, relax and recharge, nearly 10 million people develop GI issues while on the road, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
"Because of digestive upset among travelers, it's easy to see why more people are including probiotics and digestive supplements in their pre-vacation planning," says Michael Petschek, Marketing Director for Culturelle. "Those days away from the daily grind can be a real investment, and taking Culturelle helps to ensure it pays off."
Culturelle, which contains 100% Lactobacillus GG, one of the most studied probiotic strains, and Inulin, a prebiotic, restores the natural balance of good bacteria in the intestinal tract, leaving the digestive system in balance.* The National Institutes of Health (NIH)** has even recommended Lactobacillus GG, the probiotic found in Culturelle, as possibly effective to help prevent digestive issues in travelers. Since diet alone makes it practically impossible to receive adequate amounts of Lactobacillus GG to balance your digestive system and help occasional digestive upset, a probiotic supplement such as Culturelle is a travel essential.
The benefits of time away from daily pressures are well documented. "Daily stress in the form of meeting deadlines, making decisions under pressure, and managing family demands are a fact of life," offers Dr. Lara Sheridan, medical anthropologist. "But vacations allow us the potential to break that cycle of stress, giving both our minds and body a chance to truly rejuvenate. The fact that fear of gastrointestinal distress has limited the choices for 30% of the traveling public clearly points to the need to protect your precious time away."
Culturelle contains 100% Lactobacillus GG, the #1 scientific-studied probiotic strain with more than 400 studies supporting efficacy, including numerous clinical trials. It contains a guaranteed 10 billion live cultures at time of use, an important difference since many probiotic supplements only indicate the number of active cultures at time of manufacture, many of which may not be living when actually consumed. Culturelle is an easy, safe, simple way to stay healthy and comfortable wherever the road takes you.
